Tour Program
We will pick you up from your hotel in Bergama and begin the daily Pergamon city tour. Pergamon is an ancient city located in the Anatolia region, in present-day Bergama, Izmir Province, approximately 25 kilometers from the Aegean Sea. The city had significant strategic importance as it overlooked the Caicus River Valley (modern name Bakırçay), providing a transportation link from Pergamon to the Aegean coast. Pergamon reached the peak of its influence during the Hellenistic period, becoming the capital of the Attalid kings. In the Roman period, it was the first capital of the Asian province, but it eventually lost this status to its local rival, Ephesus. Pergamon is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built on a conical hill rising 335 meters above the surrounding valley, we will see the Pergamon Acropolis, the famed library, the terrace of Turkey's steepest theater, the main palace, the Altar of Zeus, and the propylon of the Temple of Athena. In the early Christian era, the church in Pergamon was a major center of Christianity and was one of the Seven Churches of Revelation. Galen, who was born and educated in Pergamon, was the authority on European medicine from the 2nd century until the Renaissance. After the cultural tour, our agency will suggest a visit to an onyx and jewelry shop, where you can see traditional Turkish items. After the tour, around 17:00 – 18:00, we will depart back to Bergama and drop you off at your hotel. We hope your tour was memorable and look forward to seeing you again on another Vidi Travel. Have a safe trip back home, and thank you for choosing Vidi Travel.
Please Note: If the cable car is not operating, we will take you to the Acropolis by taxi or bus.
